Week 6 Why Snapchat is the Perfect App at the Perfect Time

Sorry, I am about to become a hater.   I know there are some good uses of Snapchat but I am having a hard time seeing them at the moment.  The last thing any high schooler needs is a picture or video they send to be seen for a few seconds then disappear.  They all incorrectly think these pictures or videos are gone for good but little do they know that if the police or FBI want to see what has been sent on that phone it is all available when they hook up a special device to the phone.  I love technology but some of it does not need to give the false sense of anonymity to teens.

  1. Hi Andrea,

This blog made me chuckle only because I just recently started using the app. Granted, my uses are to just to send random funny pictures with text to a small group of friends.

However, I have to agree with what you're saying about giving teens a false sense of anonymity. Not only is the information still out there in cyber space but with smart phones now you can screen shot anything sent to you. So having the ability to screen shot an image basically takes away all of the anonymity snapchat claims.

Interesting article. Thanks for the read.

  2. I agree with Ashleigh, I too have the app and it is hilarious, but at the same time I am also very careful about what I snap, nothing is ever "anonymous" when it comes to social media, apps & technology anymore :)
